2026 Mervat Zahid Cultural Foundation Prize Winners

The Association of Historians of Nineteenth-Century Art is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 Mervat Zahid Cultural Foundation Prize, of the Dahesh Museum of Art, given for a distinguished presentation at the 23rd Annual Graduate Student Symposium in Nineteenth-Century Art, held on March 14, 2026. This year, two individuals received the award:

Nathanaël Lapierre, Northwestern University, for “‘It must be marble’: Marble, Bronze, and Race in Nineteenth-Century Martinique”

Isabelle Sagraves, University College London, for “‘Baptême japonais‘: Transformation, Disguise, and the Self in Félix Buhot’s Japoniste Etchings”
